Hundreds of shows, a thousand musicians involved, a bigger and classier camping and the birth of a “Home” on an area of over one hundred thousand square meters, where water is free for everyone. From Wednesday 29 August to Sunday 2 September the European big festivals’ network gazes at Treviso for the ninth edition of #HF.

A festival is not just a main stage surrounded by a set of other platforms on which stellar bands perform. A festival is a home where you can spend a holiday at; where in the afternoon you can wander around at the market or discover art installations; take part in readings, debates and during the happy hour you go to the fun fair or play a soccer game. Then, in the evening, you have dinner, drink something and dance. A festival is a home where you sleep in a tent and where you grow culturally and artistically, a total experience that allows you to get to know the city that hosts it and make new friends.

In Treviso these concepts become reality in the former Customs area (Dogana), starting from the camping, an element that characterizes the authentic Festivals. Then you can find also unique services: free water for all, thanks to the refill stations. The differentiated waste collection is so advanced as to respect the environment. The inhabitants around the festival area are supported day and night by the presence of the residents’ angel, a symbolic figure represented by a team of volunteers who fulfill every need. We cannot leave out that the refundable tokens have been made available to speed up the queues at the cashiers. This year, thanks also to an agreement between Jack Daniel’s and Home Festival, there will also be special night trains, which will connect Treviso to Mestre.

For the second year you will find the Red Bull Music Studio, a recording studio of the highest level to record and produce music, an innovative and itinerant meeting place where you can create unique projects.

These are the premises on which Home Festival is based, the only show in Italy able to compare to the European festivals such as Sziget or Tomorrowland, an event that is growing a few kilometers from Venice and brings to Veneto young people from all over Europe. To describe this ultimate experience, we need to divide it into a few segments, but you have to imagine them all united: a unique and magical alchemy, where the sweat and joy of those who love music merge with a staff of over 500 volunteers, unified by the work of a company that every day of the year thinks only of the first weekend of September and of Home Festival.

HISTORY AND NUMBERS

Home Festival is an event that first of all loves the great live concerts and that is spread over an area of 95,000 square meters. These are the numbers of attendees of the past editions: 27,000 in 2010, 55,000 in 2011, 85,000 in 2012, 107,000 in 2013 (last year in which the festival was free), 70,000 in 2014 (admission € 5.00), 80,000 in 2015 (admission € 15.00, attendants coming from six different countries), 88,000 in 2016 (entry € 22.00) and similar presences the following year, despite the cancellation of one night due to bad weather. We are talking about a festival with 8 stages, 160 shows including live shows, DJ sets and book presentations as well as cultural debates, as many as 500 volunteers involved and over 90 companies working from logistics to food. The entertainment has been translated from 2010 to today in about a thousand shows (to which we get also after dozens of events during the “Road to Home Festival” over the year) for an average of over fifty hours of music on the days of the Festival and a total of over 280 bands presented in the last five editions. The mass media people who talk about the event are many: last year about 400 journalists and photographers were accredited, coming from abroad as well.

THE HEADLINERS OF THE 2018 EDITION

Ninety artists announced and eight stages ready to welcome them in five days: here is the artistic programming of HF day by day. It starts with Aperol [email protected], the official opening of Home Festival. Aperol Spritz offers once again the DAY0Wednesday, August 29th exceptionally free entry for everyone to celebrate the good music, strictly #HappyTogether. Performing on the stage of DAY0: Ermal Meta, back from the victory at the Sanremo Festival (duet with Fabrizio Moro, with the song “Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente”, platinum record), participation in the Eurovision Contest in Lisbon and a sold-out at the Milan Forum; Le Vibrazioni, the historical Milanese rock band composed by Francesco Sarcina, Stefano Verderi, Marco Castellani and Alessandro Deidda, got back together last summer. After having participated in the Sanremo Festival with the song “Così Sbagliato” and having published “V”, their fifth studio album (distributed by Artist First), they are among the protagonists of the summer with “Amore Zen” together with Jake La Furia. And then the Roman band Joe Victor, winner of the contest “Sziget & Home Sound Fest”, Rumatera, the one-of-a-kind exception “Made in Veneto”, who celebrates ten years of career, La Scapigliatura, awarded in 2015 with the Targa Tenco for the best Opera Prima, while in 2016 both album and band received the Lunezia Award. With them also Rovere, Twee, Universal Sex Arena and an evening dedicated to rock legends with an excerpt from the famous “Monsters of Rock” festival with AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Metallica. Then, the group from Treviso made up of Susum Soundsystem w/ Michael Salamon + Gilo + Detroit Soul, Laesh and Crai will make you dance until the closing of this premiere of Home Festival.

#HF18 Officially begins on August 30th, with DAY1 and the alternative rock of Alt-J: the English band composed by Joe Newman, Gus Unger Hamilton and Thom Green, won the prestigious Mercury Prize for the debut album “An Awesome Wave” of 2012. After “This Is All Yours” (2014), Alt-J last year released “Relaxer”, the third album which includes eight tracks of 40 concise minutes that, as the artists themselves say, constitute a mental journey, with an almost trippy mood. The post-punk of White Lies is also starring. After the success of the debut album “To Lose My Life” in 2009, which single conquered the first position in UK thanks to the sales, in 2016 “Friends” is released, which immediately enters the Top 20 in Europe. Then, The Wombats present their alternative rock sound, the Liverpool trio fresh from the new album “Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life”.

For DAY2 Friday, August 31st The Prodigy will make their return to Treviso. The British trio, author of milestones of electronic music such as “Voodoo People”, “Smack My Bitch Up” and “Firestarter”, is the symbol of the “rave generation” of the nineties and one of the greatest exponents of the big beat. Right now they are in the studio for the new record and this might reserve some surprises for the concerto in Treviso. Californian Incubus were also announced as headliners. Rock? Metal? Rap? All of this together in their new album released in 2017 and produced with Skrillex and in the same year their total record sales reached 23 million copies. After performing at festivals like Lollapalooza, Air + Style, Download Festival and Pinkpop they are ready to go on stage at Home Festival. And, 20 years after the success of “Acido Acida” and 13 years from their last live, Prozac+ come back again for only two shows, including that of August 31st at Home Festival, without any new publication or tour.

We dance on DAY3 Saturday, September 1st with the world star Eric Prydz. The Swedish disc jockey, musician and record producer became famous in 2004 with the hit “Call On Me”, played by all the deejays of the world, his success amplified two years later with “Proper Education”, his reinterpretation in a house arrangement of the famous song of Pink Floyd “Another Brick in the Wall” that dominated the famous Global Dance Traxx, the authentic dance singles ranking. You cannot miss out on another world-famous DJ, Afrojack. The Dutch dj and producer, considered one of the best in the world, is ready to make the entire Home audience dance. The Grammy-winning DJ and second DJ in the world to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and boasts numerous international collaborations with world-renowned artists such as Pitbull and Ne-Yo for the song “Give Me Everything” and David Guetta with “Another Life”. And also Cosmo and the Dark Polo Gang will also take care of the Saturday night dance.

Last day for #HF18 will be DAY4, Sunday September 2nd. Sunday, the artist Caparezza will ignite the crowds of kids and adults. After the 20 sold-out dates of the tour in the arenas, he’s coming “at Home” by popular demand. Thanks to his latest album “Prisoner 709” (golden record) and its singles he remained in the “hot airplay” of Italian radios: the result is that Caparezza is the Italian artist of the year. Sharing the same stage of DAY4 there will be Francesca Michielin, who ends the summer tour of 2640 with a special date at HF. “La Nostra Ultima Canzone”, already among the most popular Italian songs on the radio, is the single that preceded the album “Vivere o Morire” by Motta, who will also stop in Treviso with his tour “Motta live 2018”. A new headliner for Sunday will be announced soon.

THE GLAMPING FROM GLASTONBURY

It’s pointless beating about the bush. Home Festival has been awarded as best festival in Italy for many years in a row, because it is not just a huge space with a huge stage. It’s a Home. For three years Home has also had its own garden, “Pam Home Garden”, the space dedicated to camping, which can accommodate about a thousand people a night. After the experiences of the past few years, this year the company that organizes the event has decided to focus even more on the concept of glamping, a word that combines “glamour” with “camping”, accommodation halfway between the green and the luxury, a campsite that offers all the comforts of a hotel. Some examples? Tents with internal lighting, flooring with carpets and cushions, bed with mattress and linen, power supply, storage box. The setting up was handled by the professionals of the sector: The Pop Up Hotel, an Italian company offshoot of the one that manages the glamping spaces in one of the world’s legendary festivals, Glastonbury in England. Entertainment is guaranteed in the afternoon every day with a different party, a completely free “beauty salon” will be set up for makeup and hairstyles for “festivalgoers” and detox areas will be arranged with smoothies, fruit salads, pancakes, juices, fruit cocktails and yoga sessions.

Moreover, the theme of tourist reception is at the center of the attention of the company that organizes Home Festival. Suffice it to mention the collaboration over the years with Ciset, the tourism association of the University of Venice, or with the Consortium of tourist promotion Marca Treviso.

THE POP UP STORE IN THE CENTER OF TREVISOO

The space that the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso and Belluno has granted to Home was inaugurated in mid-June. Home Festival Pop Up Store, this is the name of the space of #hf18 in Piazza Borsa in the historic center of Treviso that will welcome festival tourists from June to September. It will serve as an “info-point”, through which Hf will show off by organizing events and giving information. For the occasion, Hf has decided to enhance its relationship with the Treviso region by offering a special offer to those who live in Treviso or in the province: for a limited period of time tickets will be sold for € 20.00 instead of € 30.00. You just have to show up with your ID card. The space will also be at the center of a series of events. “We are proud of this opportunity given to us to promote the Marca Trevigiana and our Festival”, explains Amedeo Lombardi, founder of Home Festival. “The Piazza Borsa Pop Up Store represents the best that Home Festival can give to this city. It is in fact located in the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and therefore highlights the economic collateral activities that have an impact on the territory. It is located in front of the statue of Mario del Monaco precisely to reaffirm the link with art and music for the events we are going to realize. It re-qualifies an area of the city, putting itself at the service of tourists and festival lovers who will visit the historic center and the beauties of the Veneto region. Without forgetting our fellow citizens who will be able to enjoy the event at discounted prices”.

THE GRAPHIC CONCEPT AND THE SOCIAL NETWORKS

Home Festival is a home, and as such it needs to have foundations laid. Those of Hf18 are artistic, it is a concept that influences the whole coordinated theme. Like last year, the image has been edited by the 28-year-old graphic artist from Treviso Self who, after studying art in Milan and Rotterdam, has specialized in the creation of illustrations with a strong evocative power: characters designed with an approach that is easily recognizable for its particularities that refer to a dreamlike setting. A choice, that of focusing on illustrations, that refers to an almost primordial world, the result of study and team work.

The choice, specifically, was to start from the whirlwind that last year caused the cancellation of a show and the subsequent desire to be reborn, starting again all together as authentic families do in difficult times. Last year, the overall vision was that of a galaxy composed of four “musical planets” from which the various stages drew music during the event.

The concept of this year catapults the “Homies” out of that galaxy where they were staying and makes them wander in a new sky, made of patterns, shapes, constellations and abstract elements and these images are already spreading on the web. They have been noticed by hundreds of thousands of young people who follow the Treviso festival on social networks: over 150,000 fans on Facebook, almost 30,000 on Instagram and more than five thousand on Twitter. A population that rushes the Festival website that last year recorded about two and a half million hits in the weeks preceding the event, with peaks just before the first night.

ROAD TO #HF18

Behind the Home Festival machine there is a company that works all year round and plans the next edition already during the dismantling of the main stage. There is a staff made up of entertainment professionals, event managers, communicators and marketing experts who, in addition to thinking and managing #HF, designs a series of events that together form the road to the overture of the new edition. It is called “Road to Home Festival” and traces the major European festivals such as Sziget, Tomorrowland, Primavera Sound and Coachella. In addition to various communication and organizational collaborations, the three main events that Home Entertainment looks after are the participation in the Milan Fuorisalone, the Secret Show (but also the Home Sound Fest contest) at Home Rock Bar and the Elvis Days. Furthermore, to support the event with all its formats, HF realizes in collaboration with its partners also a tour that covers all Italy starting in June.
